The hardest raw material ever found on Earth is diamond. It is the only gemstone consisting of just one element. Diamond is made of pure carbon that crystallizes due to very high pressure and temperature. This occurs deep within the Earth, at a depth of 150 to 200 kilometers below the surface. Of all the diamonds found, only 20% are suitable for use in jewelry.
In addition, there are now 'lab-grown' diamonds. These are created in a laboratory where they grow under the same conditions as in nature, meaning high temperature and pressure. These diamonds have the same properties as traditional ones. Only their origin is different. Furthermore, these diamonds are up to 50% cheaper. This makes diamonds accessible to a much wider audience.
