About the history of MidCentury Jewellery After the austerity of World War II, Jewellery and fashion returned to color, flamboyance and a sense of fantastic over-the-top extravagance. Bold, colored gemstones and brilliant diamonds were set in all shades of gold, and platinum, palladium and white gold were once again available for Jewellery creations. Jewellery in this decade made a statement and rings remained large as in the 1930s and 1940s, but the sharp geometric lines of the Art Deco era softened into curved contours. In the 1950s and 1960s the motto for both life and Jewellery was “the more, the better.”
