Product information

This half-moon brooch, one of our most sentimental jewels in the collection, is crafted from solid 14-karat rose gold and set with foil-cut, rose-cut diamonds and natural blue sapphires. The sapphires are beautifully matched to each other in color, saturation and tone and have the loveliest royal blue color.

Marked with the Dutch oak leaf for 14-karat gold, used between 1906-1953. There are ten diamonds set, ranging from 1,2 mm to 3,3 mm, alternated with eight natural sapphires from 1,6 x 1,7 mm to 3 x 3,3 mm.

The history of the half moon in jewelry

Half moons are highly symbolic, stand for many things and can be given on numerous occasions. Half moons, which fascinate people because of their meaningful motifs, were often given as gifts in the Victorian era to express the hope that a relationship would grow into marriage. When half moons were worn in the hair, they were traditionally associated with the goddess Diana, the patroness of nature and wild animals, childbirth, fertility, the night and crossroads.

As a gift for a loved one or for yourself this brooch is steeped in meaning and sentiment. Perfect for its aesthetic appeal or to convey a special meaning, this brooch is beautiful, symbolic and historic.
