Vintage 14 kt gold pendant with millefiori
Product information
This millefiori bead, Italian for "thousand flowers", is entirely handmade and comes from Venice. The ancient Egyptians devised the techniques that the Italians mastered centuries later to create these beautiful, colorful beads.
Millefiori beads are still made today using the same techniques employed hundreds of years ago, entirely by hand and without machines. Mellefiori is a method in which glass or clay beads are given a series of patterns using rods. Mellefiori, a type of Murano glass, is also known as murrine.
The Murano bead industry flourished at the end of the 19th century thanks to increased trade with the African continent. Venetian beads became popular again within hippie fashion in the 1960s and 70s. So much history in such a beautiful pendant — what history will you write when you wear it?
