Gold brooch with cobalt glass and rose diamond 14 kt
Product information
This brooch from the Victorian era evokes a starry sky and has pink diamonds on cobalt blue glass.
Rings in the same style with precious diamonds and cobalt blue (or sometimes purple) glass were popular in the 18th century and were known as “bague au firmament” or “ring of the heavens”.
Bague au firmament rings were based on an original design made for Marie Antoinette, a gift from her husband Louis XVI. Bague au firmament rings can even be seen on Marie Antoinette's hand in portrait paintings of the French queen. Because of the fragility of cobalt glass in a ring, a brooch was (and is) a sweet but practical way to give your beloved the feeling of all the stars in the sky.
