About the history of Mid-Century Jewellery After the austerity of World War II, Jewellery and fashion returned to color, flamboyance and a sense of fantastic, over-the-top extravagance. Jewellery in this decade made a statement, and rings remained large as in the 1930s and 1940s, but the sharp geometric lines of the Art Deco era softened into curved contours. In the 1950s and 60s, not only in life but also in Jewellery, the motto was “more is more.”
