Golden vintage ring with lapis lazuli 14 kt
Product information
Egyptomania! This incredible vintage ring, a treasure in gold and lapis lazuli, evokes ancient Egypt and almost certainly dates from the 70s, during the third Egyptian revival. Egyptian revival jewelry is inspired by the culture and architecture of ancient Egypt and has existed since the 1800s, when Napoleon invaded Egypt and sparked the first craze for all things Egyptian.
Jewelers such as Cartier and Castellani created jewelry with an Egyptian theme for fashionable European classes. When archaeologist Howard Carter found the entrance to the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922, Egyptomania exploded and leading jewelers, including Cartier and Tiffany, again created beautiful jewelry with Egyptian influences, which were a craze during the Art Deco period.
The third Egyptian revival took place between 1972 and 1981, when treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun were exhibited in a traveling exhibition around the world and drew millions of people. Both costume jewelers and goldsmiths created Egyptian-inspired jewelry, such as this example.
