Product information

Ammolite is a rare gemstone derived from fossil ammonites that went extinct 65 million years ago. It is found in the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada. Each ammolite is unique, with its own colors and patterns, making it a fascinating piece.
After existing for 330 million years, the ammonites went extinct along with the dinosaurs. Their fossils remained buried for millions of years in ocean sediment before they were discovered.

The Blackfeet tribe long knew about ammolite before it was used as a gemstone. It was first described and documented by scientists in the early 1900s, and ammolite was first introduced as a gem in the 1960s. In 1981 ammolite was recognized as a gemstone by the World Jewellery Confederation; in 2022 ammolite was honored as the official gemstone of Alberta.

Gemstones are beautiful, enchanting time capsules of history, and ammonites are fascinating, wearable pieces of natural history.
