Natural sapphires are surrounded by a halo of sparkling brilliant-cut diamonds in these luxurious 18 karat white gold earrings. Each earring features a royal blue sapphire, perfectly matched for color and cut, and nearly 1 karat of diamonds.


Sapphires have been valued since the Middle Ages and have consistently been one of the most sought-after and highly prized gemstones. In historical tradition the blue color of sapphires symbolized the heavens and was said to attract divine favor. Early Christian kings wore sapphire rings to provide them protection, ancient Greeks wore sapphires when they sought answers from the oracle, and Hindus used sapphires during worship.

In more modern jewelry history Prince Charles gave Princess Diana a blue sapphire with a diamond halo ring for their engagement in 1981; their son Prince William gave this same ring to Kate Middleton for their engagement in 2010.

Sapphires are one of the most practical gemstones for everyday wear and score 9 on the Mohs hardness scale, just behind diamond. Sapphires are as durable as they are beautiful.
